Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 Per Diem — What Bechtel Really Pays (2026)
    June 3, 2026Read on blog →
If you're looking at Port Arthur LNG Phase 2, here's the straight version before you commit the windshield time. This is the big Gulf Coast LNG expansion in Jefferson County, Texas. Sempra pulled the trigger — Phase 2 got its final investment decision in late 2025, the money's committed (about $14 billion), and Bechtel has the EPC contract carried over from Phase 1, already under notice to proceed. So this isn't a maybe. It's funded and moving. What that means for a brother: Phase 2 adds Trains 3 and 4, plus a storage tank and another marine berth. It's expected to add around 2,000 construction jobs on top of the Phase 1 crew. The craft mix is the usual heavy LNG build — Pipefitters, Boilermakers, Ironworkers, IBEW, Millwrights, Operating Engineers, and Laborers. This is a long-haul job. Phase 1's trains come online in 2027 and 2028, and Phase 2's Trains 3 and 4 aren't expected to start up until 2030 and 2031. There are years of work in this one if the schedule holds — set up like you're staying. On the money: the per diem floating around is $125 a day. That's the announced number — it has not been confirmed by a craft brother on the ground. One thing worth knowing: the public per-diem figures you'll see online for Port Arthur are mostly for staff and engineering roles, not craft. So get YOUR rate in writing before you take the dispatch, and don't run on a number off a phone call. Straight talk on safety, brother to brother: Port Arthur had a serious incident on site that cost lives. Big LNG jobs move fast, and the pressure is real. Know your stop-work rights, watch your crew, and don't let anybody rush you into something that isn't right. The money's good, but no per diem is worth your life. Location read: Port Arthur is deep Southeast Texas on the Gulf — hot, humid, hurricane country. There's a working market for rooms and rentals around Port Arthur, Beaumont, and Nederland, but it fills up when a job this size mans up. Line up your housing before you mobilize. Confirm your local's agreement status before you roll, and check with your BA on the current dispatch status before you make travel plans. Brothers on Port Arthur Phase 2 right now — what's the real craft per diem, and which contractor's manning your scope? Drop what you're really getting in the comments. That's how we keep each other honest.
