TSMC Phoenix: The Biggest Semiconductor Build in US History

    Job Site Intel
TSMC Phoenix is not a normal job site. By invested dollar value, it is one of the largest private construction projects in American history — a $65 billion commitment spread across multiple fab buildings with a construction timeline that runs through 2028 at minimum. IBEW Local 640 has the primary agreement. The work is real and the timelines are funded. Per diem has been running at $168/day with AECOM managing the construction contract. Hourly rates fall in the $46 to $60 range depending on classification. The per diem clearing cycle is every two weeks and members report it has been consistent. Housing near the fab is in the Gilbert and Chandler areas — expect to pay $90 to $110 per night for anything close to the site. Book early when a new crew call goes out because the area fills fast and the alternatives push you significantly further out. The Phoenix summer is the main thing to plan for if you haven't worked in the desert before. Heat mitigation is enforced on site, but 115-degree days require personal discipline that goes beyond what the contractor requires. Start times are early for a reason. The first few weeks of acclimation are the period when heat stress incidents happen most. Come prepared, stay hydrated before you are thirsty, and do not try to tough it out. IBEW Local 640 is the dispatch authority for this work. If you are IBEW and not already registered on their out-of-work list, that is the first step. The job is large enough that it has been drawing from multiple locals on a reciprocal basis. Confirm dispatch requirements with your home local before traveling. This is a generational job — the type that comes around once in a career for most trades.
