LNG Boom: Which Terminals Are Actually Hiring Right Now

There are more LNG export terminals under construction in the United States right now than at any other point in history. The global demand for American natural gas has turned the Gulf Coast into one of the most active industrial construction zones in the world. Not all of these projects are at the same stage, and not all of them are hiring right now. Here is an honest breakdown. Port Arthur LNG with Bechtel and Golden Pass LNG with Chiyoda and McDermott are the two largest active worksites with real crews on the ground today. Per diem at Port Arthur is running $185/day. Golden Pass is at $182/day. Both are UA Pipefitters and Boilermakers projects. If you are on the out-of-work list and either of these is dispatching to your classification, they are worth serious consideration. The duration is real — thirty-six months on both — and the contractor reputations are known quantities. Calcasieu Pass LNG with Zachry Group and Plaquemines LNG with Venture Global are also active. Per diem at Plaquemines has been reported at $128/day, which is below the Port Arthur and Golden Pass rates. Member reports indicate the Worley contractor at Plaquemines is ramping crew sizes. Calcasieu is a thirty-month project at $178/day. CP2 LNG in Cameron Parish has the Bechtel contract signed but is still clearing the permit process. When it opens it will be one of the largest LNG projects ever built. The work is coming but it is not dispatching today. Register on the applicable local's out-of-work list now if you want to be positioned when it opens. The members who are ready when a major project mobilizes are the ones who work it from the beginning through the duration.
